Video Marketing Stars: Wistia

Being the first week of the Video Marketing Stars, we wanted to recognise a company whose video marketing is truly exceptional, probably some of the best uses of video to build trust and credibility we’ve ever seen. And all this from a company that provides online video hosting – in their words ‘a boring product’.
This week’s winner is Wistia, based in Cambridge Massachusetts, they use live video to great effect to build a personal connection with their audience. They seem to use videos to communicate just about anything to their fans and followers, including, but not limited to:

- I’m sure there’s lots more that we’ve missed too.
Why do they do all this in video form? Because they discovered early on that people respond very well to video content and their consistency has built up a strong community following for them. Seems quite poetic for a video hosting company if you think about it. Videos are such a great form of content, what people really need is professional video hosting!
Our favourite part of Wistia’s video marketing
All that other stuff aside, we wanted to recognise in particular their Learning Center, a collection of 26 videos dedicated to helping companies produce videos more easily and put them to great use in their marketing. The Learning Center has a main headline video that runs through the different topics and gives viewers a call to action button for each individual video. So you get a short snippet and a chance to find out more. quickly and easily. The video is fast-paced, so it holds interest very well, and shows the range of topics they cover in a short amount of time. Below the main video are 3 categories of videos that cover topics in more detail.
The Learning Center videos have been shared thousands of times over, and contain great tips on how to produce live action videos even on a tight budget. the videos also end with a chance to subscribe by email to future communications from the Wistia team, which is a great feature of the video player they provide, helping to build their email list.
Not only this, they seem like really friendly and helpful guys. Say hi to them on Twitter and you’ll get a reply that will make you smile.
What you can learn from Wistia
First of all, we highly, highly recommend you check out their Learning Centre if you’re considering producing any live videos for your own marketing, you will definitely learn something new directly from them on the subject of video marketing. Other than that, what can you do to add some extra spice to your video marketing? Follow Wistia’s lead, get yourself a video studio, even on a budget, and try some things out. The key is to measure the results that your videos achieve and iterate based on them. If something doesn’t work, that’s fine, just learn from it for next time. You’ll have a very quick learning curve and before you know it you’ll be sending out video communications to your audience that will catch their attention far better than any amount of text could ever hope for.
